Beijing 2010A Lim2022-08-06T00:00:07+08:00 Project Description Photos taken during a weekend in Beijing, February 2010. TiananmenTiananmen, also known by it direct translation name of Gate of Heavenly Peace, is the entrance to the Imperial City. Forbidden City is located within the Imperial City but many mistook this gate to be the entrance for the Forbidden City.Hua BiaoOne of the two hua biao erected in front of Tiananmen. Hua biao is a type of ceremonial columns used in traditional Chinese architecture - traditionally erected in front of palaces and tombs.Monument to the People's HeroesThere are many buildings and structures that surround the Tiananmen Square. One of them is this Monument to the People's Heroes. This ten-story obelisk was erected as a national monument to the martyrs of revolutionary struggle during the 19th and 20th centuries.Great Wall of ChinaThe Great Wall of China. One of the world's most famous walls ever built by man, started as separate smaller walls and was later joined and strengthen, thus was collectively referred as the Great Wall. There are 2 sections which tourists are usually found - Badaling and Mutianyu. This section is the Mutianyu section as it was quieter and less crowded, thus making it a better selection for a visit.Black-billed MagpieThis magpie was sitting on the tree branches a distance away from the wall and managed to capture it using a long side of the telephoto lens I had at the time - Pretty good photo from a 18-200mm lens. Great Wall (Mutianyu section)A picturesque, and almost paint-like, photograph of the Great Wall of China (Mutianyu section), depicting the densely placed watchtowers along this section (approx 100 m apart). This makes it a unique characteristic feature compared to other sections of the Great Wall. Photo SessionWhile resting at one of the towers of the Great Wall, 2 of my colleagues decided to live dangerously by walking out onto the dilapidated part of the wall to take some photos.Great Wall Ruins (Infrared)While at the Great Wall, you will see some parts are well maintained, and others are left dilapidated.Qi Jiguang StatueFound this Qi Jiguang statue while walking down from the (Mutianyu section of) Great Wall to the car park area.Tabby CatOne of the many tabby cats seen around the base of the Great Wall of China, Mu Tian Yu section.
