The Royal Palace which was officially inaugurated in 1849. However, the first monarch to use this place as he permanent residence was Haakon VII (formally Prince Carl of Denmark) who accepted his election as king of completely independent Norway in 1905.

Scenes from the journey from Olso to Bergen. The rail route is also known as Bergensbanen. The first scheduled train leave Olso for Bergen was back in 1908.

The Bergen line actually starts from the town of Hønefoss. The train travels through farm lands and tunnels.

It even reaches Finse, the highest station on Norway's railway at 1222 km above sea level. Star Wars fan should note that this remote location was used for ice planet Hoth in Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back.
Bryggen (Pano)
The colourful waterside area of Bergen, better known as Bryggen. This area was made a World Heritage Site in 1979 for the largely wooden building that lines the quayside. However, only a quarter of them date before the last big fire in 1702.

The first stop in the Flåm train journey is the Kjosfossen Waterfall. The stop was primarily build for tourists to step off the train to get a view of the waterfall.

The Flåmsbana (Flåm Line) runs between Myrdal - a mountaintop station, and Flåm, a village in Sognefjord at ocean level. Despite a short 20.2 km, almost 80% of the journey has a gradient of 5.5%.

Flåm kyrkje (Flåm Church), a brown wooden church with about 160 seats, was built in 1670. It replaced an older stave church on the same site that was demolished in 1670.

After the visit of the village, it was time for 2nd part of the journey. This time a cruise to Gudvangen, before boarding a bus to get back to Voss, where will be board the train back to Bergen.

Undredal stavkyrkje (Undredal Stave Church) is the smallest stave church still in used in all of Scandinavia.

In this cruise, we get to experience the narrow and spectacular Nærøy fjord which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Aurora Hunting Night 1
After the earlier "adventure", which I had about an hour of watching aurora on my back and getting back to Alta in an alternative vehicle, the aurora intensity has faded, so there wasn't much to photograph. Hence, only 1 photograph to mark the night which I had my second aurora encounter.
Spildra Island Sunset, Kvænangen
While waiting for aurora to appear at Jøkelfjord, we witness an amazing sunset over the Spildra Island. This is also the only location where the Øksfjordjøkelen Glacier meets the sea. Unfortunately, it is not the season which we can witness calving. Thus it was a quiet wait.

The temperature was not too kind on my health condition. The camera was set on time lapse release, and I was trying to keep myself warm.

Hjemmeluft Bay (Pano)
Hjemmeluft (or Jiepmaluokta by the Northern Sami) is a bay in Alta and is the main site for the rock carvings at Alta with about 3000 individual carvings.
Svolvær Harbour (Pano)
Panoramic view of the harbour area in Svolvær. Left top corner, you might spot the Svolværgeita, which was supposed to be Lofoten's Lofoten's most famous landmark.
Sildpollneset (Pano)
Sildpollneset is a peninsula in the Austnesfjorden on the island of Austvågøya in the Lofoten archipelago. You can find the Sildpollnes kirke at the end of the peninsula, in the middle of the fjord.

Wanted to visit the Polarlightcenter in Laukvik, but apparently we have to booked before we show up and we did not, so we found it closed when we arrive in the mid-morning. Nevertheless, we took a drive around the area to check out the area.

After driving around looking for food, we finally found a cafe that sells food in Sandsletta!

Vågan Kirke
Vågan Kirke (Vågan Church), also known as the Lofoten Cathedral, was built in 1898. Located in the village of Kabelvåg on the island of Austvågøya, it is the largest wooden building in Northern Norway (north of Trondheim).

Nice view just a little short walk from the Vågan Kirke. We had to pass a few houses before seeing this view. It makes us wonder how would it be like to walk up daily with such view?

Fishing villages dot the islands in the archipelago. Along with it are the fish flakes that are used to dry the fishes that were caught.

Flakstad Kirke (Flakstad Church)
The red, wooden church was built in 1780 with timbers from Russia. Russia also supplied one of the chandeliers in the church. The tower was blown off by a hurricane in 1874 and was only placed back in 1938 during the renovations.
